FME Form Advanced Course – Full Course (2 Days)

Learn from the experts in how to use the advanced components and capabilities in FME through this two-day course, which includes extensive hands-on, problem-solving exercises. This training course builds upon the basic framework of workspace creation in FME Form. The course covers topics that are commonly used by all workspace authors who wish to take their FME skills to the next level.

  • Make use of user parameters and their more advanced techniques.
  • Analyze and deconstruct an FME log file.
  • Understand potential methods for improving FME performance.
  • Create, edit and re-use a custom transformer.
  • Incorporate advanced methods for reading and writing datasets (dynamic workspaces, fanouts, etc.).
  • Construct attributes with the text and arithmetic editors.
  • Understand when and how to apply conditional attribute values.

This training material is intended for persons with some prior experience of using FME. The content assumes a basic familiarity with the concepts and practices of FME Form; at least to the extent covered by the FME Form Basic Training.

In particular, it would be helpful to be familiar with:

  • FME transformers and basic transformation techniques.
  • See the "Data Transformation" chapter of the Basic Training.
  • Basic workspace design including multiple Readers and Writers.
  • See the "Workspace Design" chapter of the Basic Training.
  • Data filtering and attribute management techniques in FME Workbench, and use of FeatureReader/FeatureWriter transformers.
  • See the "Practical Transformer Use" chapter of the Basic Training.
  • If in doubt, carry out the exercise at the end of this chapter (titled "Basic FME Skills Review"). If you are able to implement the exercise without too much difficulty, then you are ready for the rest of this course.

The full course is made up of five main sections.
